About Tevah – Founder

AnglerWelcome!

My name is Tevah and I LOVE fly fishing! I’ll tell you a little more about my beginnings shortly but first, let me explain what I’m doing here!

I have always loved sharing stories, helping people, as well as teaching others when I could. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so!

Here at flyfishinguy.com, I plan to share discoveries I have made in the sport, review products, as well as document my journey! I love meeting new people and hope that many of you will reach out to me to share your experiences or to just say hi! Either way, I hope you enjoy what you find!

My Journey

I started fishing at a young age with my dad and my cousins. I never really did any fly fishing because, as most do, I thought it was an extremely difficult style of fishing that I wouldn’t be successful at. After years of fishing from docks and boats, we went on a backpacking trip in the Bob Marshall Wilderness in Montana and fished more than I ever had in my life.

I was about 9 or 10 and I still remember what the Flathead river was like there. We were camped about 15 miles from the trailhead by a large pool at the base of several large rock faces. The water was the clearest water I had ever laid eyes on. The river wasn’t just clear, but it was PACKED with beautiful cutthroat trout. They averaged 12″-15″ long and you could hook into one almost every cast.

One day, we were standing on the rocks looking down into the cold clear water when I saw a glimpse of something very large and dark. Being 9 years old, I was convinced that I had just discovered a freshwater shark. This beast was enormous! I called over to my dad to show him my new discovery. He came running over, obviously concerned and confused by my tone and story. As he approached I pointed out the unknown monster and a smile formed on his lips. He told me that it wasn’t a shark but rather a bull trout. That was the first time I had heard of bull trout and these fish were massive! Each one was at least 3 times longer than the cutthroat in the pool. We didn’t target any of the Bullies that were there for a couple of reasons, but I knew that someday I would love to catch some of these beautiful fish. Bull Trout

Years later, we returned at a different time of year to camp and fish but we didn’t see any bullies that trip. We still caught plenty of beautiful cutthroats though. However, this trip was special for other reasons. My dad got a new fly rod and decided to give me his old rod. I was so excited to learn a new style of fishing that when we left for the hike I decided to pack in a 5lbs box of fish batter to use on some of the cutthroats that we decided to keep. That trip was a memorable one for a multitude of reasons, but I fondly remember it as the place I learned to fly fish.

Quite a bit of time has passed since that trip, about 15 years to be exact, but I still love to fly fish. Recently I started tying my own flies and nothing is more rewarding than catching fish on your own flies! I also was introduced to Tenkara style fishing and I absolutely fell in love with the simplicity of it. I will continue to fish both styles of fly fishing but I am excited to explore more in the Tenkara community.

My Mission

I mentioned earlier that I love to help and teach people and that is the truth! I know that there are many that want to learn more about the sport and many more that have simply always wanted to learn but never have. This sport can be intimidating to a newcomer for many reasons!

I will strive to provide quality content to inspire experienced veterans to get outside as well as to provide those that are new with the information necessary to start!

Wealthy Affiliate

My Goal

I plan to make a “one-stop-shop” for information regarding the sport. Whether you are looking for a new rod, you want to know the best pair of chest waders on the market, or you wanted to learn more about Tenkara.

I hope to make this my full-time job so that I can live my dreams as well as help others to do the same!

If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.

All the best,

Tevah Buchanan

    Dear Tevah,

How you doing? This is Angel. Pretty nice website you have here about Fishing. Have you heard of the flying fish? Have you been to Shedd Aquarium? You sound like a marine biologist who studies the many types of fish here with this Intro. Do you release the fish you catch or cook them by frying them in a bonfire?

Also, have you played any fishing video games like Harvest Moon too which helped accelerate your fishing passion?

Wishing you all the best with your online success Above Beyond the Horizon,

      Hello Angel!

I’m great, and thank you! I have heard of flying fish, very cool! Unfortunately, I have not been there. I usually release the fish the I cast, but occasionally I keep them to eat.

I have never tried any of those games, they sound fun though!

      Thanks for the support!!
